A Little Late, But Always Worth Reading - March Recap
Hey there, Her Story Fam!
Okay, okay. We know it’s April but March was such a full and powerful month for us that we just had to pause and put our hearts into this special edition newsletter.
From powerful reflections on womanhood in Nigeria, to bold action on the streets of Lagos, and brilliant lightbulb moments from our entrepreneurship program, this issue is packed with the realness, impact, and growth you’ve come to expect from Her Story Nigeria.
Here’s what we’ve been up to and what our community has been saying.
Reflections From Our IWD Anonymous Form: Womanhood in Nigeria Today
We asked. You answered. And wow, did you get real with us.
Here’s a snapshot of what some Nigerian women are thinking and feeling about women’s rights in today’s world:
“I struggle with struggling. I feel like I can't drop the ball or slow down with work. I don't want to give anyone the opportunity to find a flaw or crack. So I am always on the go and it's exhausting.”
“Having to constantly explain why I want to make a decision is tiring. Because why would a full grown woman want to do something her way?”
And this one really hit home:
“They raised gender bias as a topic during my work meeting recently and not one person thought to ask a woman's perspective, even though the example had to do with a woman.”
These statements are powerful reminders of why we keep doing the work and why we must keep amplifying women's voices.
We Took to the Streets for IWD!
This year’s International Women’s Day was more than hashtags for us. We showed up and showed out at Ikeja Underbridge for a GBV Awareness Walk that reached hundreds of everyday Nigerians.
We had real conversations. We answered difficult questions. We spread awareness. And most importantly, we reminded women that they are not alone.

Building Boss Women: Entrepreneurship Incubation Series
We wrapped up three live webinars for our ongoing entrepreneurship incubation program and it’s been nothing short of empowering.
One participant, Joy Adeboye, CEO of Resilient Joy Agro Farms, shared:
“I didn’t know registering a business was this important or this doable! After the second session on ‘Financing your Business’ by Adaku Ijara, I went ahead and registered mine. I feel so proud.”
That’s the energy we love to see!

The Game of Seats: Why a Quota System Won’t Level the Playing Field for Womenn in Nigerian Politics by Adebayo Sam Oni
The underrepresentation of women in Nigerian politics is a well-documented issue and continues to be a significant barrier to achieving gender equality in the country. As we conclude the 2025 International Women’s Month, with its ambitious goal to “accelerate action” toward advancing women’s rights, we are reminded of our responsibility to acknowledge and implement strategies that support women’s progress.
